The architecture of European beauty standards was built on a foundation of structural violence against the self. Modern safety regulations and toxicological science eventually dismantled these specific formulations, replacing lead with zinc oxide and arsenic with safe mineral pigments.

Yet the underlying cultural mechanism persists. The modern consumer landscape still features subtle echoes of this historical compulsion, where extreme dietary restrictions, invasive physical modifications, and chemical treatments are normalized under the banner of self-care.
